The highly-anticipated fourth annual Kollaboration DC Talent Competition and Showcase, is taking place on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium (730 21st Street NW, Washington DC 20052). Kollaboration DC 4 will present some of the most diverse emerging talents native to the Greater Washington DC/Metropolitan area and local Asian/Pacific Islander (API) community. Kollaboration, an international movement with production teams of students and young professionals across the United States and Canada, endeavors to strengthen the API community by empowering Asian American artists to pursue their creative dreams while also inspiring newer generations of talent. Kollaboration DC 4 allows talented artists and the greater API community from the DMV region to unite and celebrate the arts in a high-energy environment. This year’s show promises to be another exciting and memorable experience for all ages!
This past April, nine talented acts were selected through an intense and competitive round of auditions as finalists for the talent competition portion of Kollaboration DC 4. These selected finalists range from experienced up-and-coming artists looking to utilize Kollaboration DC III as a springboard to introduce their talents to a brand new audience, to newly discovered talents who have never performed on a stage before. The competitors will face off on stage in front of the audience and a panel of celebrity judges for the chance to win the grand prize: $1,000 in prize money, and an opportunity to attend the 2nd annual Kollaboration Star in Los Angeles and compete against winning artists from Kollaborations all across the country for the chance to win $20,000 and the title of Kollaboration Star 2013. This year’s competitors are (in no particular order): Lynsey Fadul (Singer), Juan Sim (Opera Singer), Dave Yoon (Singer), Anna Mateo (Singer), Kirstie Espiritu (Singer), The P arlies (Acoustic Duo), Laya (Singer), BK (Singer), and Jomin Mujar (Singer).
Comedienne Jenny Yang, a founding member of the Dis/Orient/ed Comedy, the first-ever all female, Asian American standup comedy tour, will serve as Kollaboration DC 4’s emcee. Based out of Los Angeles, she is a top three finalist out of ninety comediennes in the California’s Funniest Female comedy competition in 2012, and she can be seen alongside comedy legends in Joan Rivers’ Showtime documentary, “Why We Laugh: Funny Women”(2013). Jenny has performed on The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts stage in Washington, DC and at comedy clubs and colleges throughout Southern California.
Special guest performers for Kollaboration DC 4 include local breakdance groups Upperclass and KickRocks Crew, and the 2013 Kollaboration DC Rising Star Award winner Cara Kim. The show will also be headlined by two of the hottest Asian American acts from around the country:
